Microsoft Authenticator Restored, but Your Work Account Still Needs Setup?

Interactive illustrated guide. Screens are simplified, not recorded demonstrations. Read the complete instructions below or use the silent player.

Read the complete guide

  1. Opening

Your work account has appeared after a restore, but that does not mean sign-in approval is ready.

  2. Explain

Microsoft says work and school accounts need sign-in or setup again after restoration. Keep your old phone until the new one works.

  3. Follow prompt

Open the affected account and follow the setup instructions you see. Your organisation’s requirements may differ from this demonstration.

  4. Alternatives

If asked to verify, use another verification method you already registered and your organisation permits. If you have no working method, contact your IT help desk.

  5. Test

After setup, complete a fresh sign-in and confirm the new phone handles the request. Only then consider retiring the old phone.

  6. Close

Do not delete your only working sign-in method to troubleshoot. We can explain the process, but your organisation controls access.
